Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarship with community service. The first is the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. In second football, he was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the best lineman in the country. Over the course of three seasons, Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon obtained a degree in education. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. After that, he began his professional career. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of the most notable young males. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265lbs during his time playing college football. The year 1975 was the first time he was the captain of the group. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as Associate Director of Sports. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. Parents, Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
