Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 20th, 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spanned more 40 years. London was a torch-singer, known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River", which she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to receiving a note on the music, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's long and successful acting career started in 1944 , with roles in films. These included roles as the lead female character in many westerns. Also, she starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in 1969. She maintained her popularity in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she played alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
