Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the US. She's worked as a media critic since 1995. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in pop culture. As a university student she became fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights from a young age. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by the internet campaign. She was not deterred from the attack, and the fact is that it only bolstered her determination to be a media critic and feminist. She has won several awards for her contributions to feministism.
